What is Depression?

 

Depression is medical illness that negatively affects the way you feel. It is a common illness, that anyone can get, there is no age limit.  According to the Government of Canada “about 11% of men and 16% of women in Canada will experience major depression in the course of their lives” (Government of Canada). People who are depressed tend to lose interest in activities that used to excite them and usually feel down. Depression effects everyone differently, some individuals can have one episode, while others can have multiple episodes of depression. There are many symptoms to watch out for to help yourself or a loved one.  There is no exact cause of depression, but there are a lot of risk factors that can lead to it. Thankfully, there are treatments to help with depression.
