Brief History & Background
As long as 3,000 years ago the Olympic Games were originated in Greece, yet revived in the late 19th century. The Olympic Games became the world’s biggest sporting competition ever to be held and was held every four years to honor the Greek God Zeus. The first modern Olympics took place in 1896, with only 280 athletes from 13 countries, competing against each other in 43 events. Since then, things have changed drastically and the summer and winter Olympics are held separately, alternating every two years. The number of countries and the number of events has grown dramatically since then as well. There have also been athletes whom are highly recognized due to their outstanding performances in the Olympic Games. This website will cover information on top athletes, countries, and sports. Enjoy!
