This course is designed to provide students with a cultural and historical survey of music with an emphasis on its presentation in animated film. Cultural, social & political issues are explored through an examination of musical styles in various cultures and contexts. The music of classical Europe, South Asia and American Jazz receive principal consideration.

Each student must do a Research Presentation
on ONE of the following topics:

a) Music History
b) Music Theory (from Levitin's book)
c) World Musical Culture
d) Musical Story-Telling

CLASS PARTICIPATION: 10%

MID-TERM QUIZ (Week 7): 20%
