While
there might be several symptoms of eating disorder, Jane Thaden Lawson in
Sanford Health News states that it is specific to starvation and is common
in people with anorexia nervosa
(Lawson, 2025).
People with eating disorders may show different signs, depending on the type
they have. Some common symptoms include skipping meals, eating very little,
eating a lot at once (bingeing), or feeling guilty after eating. They might
be very focused on weight, calories, or how their body looks. You may notice
changes in mood too, like being more anxious, sad, or easily upset. Over
time, eating disorders can lead to serious health problems like tiredness,
dizziness, hair loss, stomach issues, weak bones, or even heart problems. It
can also affect school, work, and relationships. That’s why getting help
early is so important. Nonetheless, it could also be found in people with bulimia nervosa who
experience weight loss due to fasting, purging actions or exercise
(Lawson, 2025).
Lawson concluded that secretive eating, excessive consumption pattern as
well as frequent trip to bathroom after eating are some among many warning
signs of eating disorder, (Lawson, 2025).
It may lead to significant anxiety and depression which can significantly
hamper one’s life as well as career by causing emotional and social
distress,
(Pennington Biomedical Research Center, 2023).
