Conservation Efforts

Proactive measures to address risks to species before they become critically endangered are frequently part of conservation efforts to keep species form being listed under the U.S. Endangered Species Act(ESA). These efforts can include both restorative act that improves conditions for species and prohibitive actions that prevent destructive behaviors. Collaboration between different stakeholders such as federal and state authorities, private landowners and non-government organizations is usually necessary for successful preventive conservation. The particular conservation requirement of the species and the environment in which they reside determine the extent scale of these initiatives, as well as the number of partners and the kinds of actions and carried out.

Preemptive conservation is an effective strategy to:

  • Maintain healthy wildlife populations
  • Increase the chances of species survival
