Sleep's Impacts on Mental Health.
Sleep and mental health are related in a two-way direction—both positive and negative. Only some very common mental health disorders, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, are commonly comorbid with sleep disorders like insomnia and sleep deprivation. Conversely, frequent sleeping problems increase psychological symptoms and favor the development of mood disorders. It is related to the neural systems controlling mood, stress response, and circadian rhythms. Hence, treatment of sleep disorders assumes prime importance for better overall well-being and mental health outcomes.
