Introduction

Ambulance

Catastrophic injury is considered a severe, life-changing incident, leaving the sufferer and family severely and often forever affected. More often, injuries of this type result in impairment that might be permanent with prolonged medical treatment and rehabilitation. This paper addresses some medical treatments and rehabilitation approaches, various kinds of catastrophic injuries, causes, and prevention strategies. Catastrophic injuries are a class of medical emergency that is serious and causes devastation, changing the course of a person's life (Boden, Boden, Peter, Mueller, & Johnson, 2012-07). These extreme physical injuries, beyond the usual medical difficulties, have complicated and multidimensional effects on not only the afflicted person but also on their families, support systems, and larger social institutions. Catastrophic injury is critical to medical science, human resilience, and societal support systems. The more this complex condition is understood, the more effective its prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation will be in improving outcomes and quality of life.
