Bitcoin

Bitcoin is a digital currency that works over the internet without needing a central authority, like a bank or government, to manage it. This means no single organization controls Bitcoin; instead, it is maintained by a network of computers spread worldwide.  Bitcoin is unique because it allows people to send and receive money directly, cutting out intermediaries.

Bitcoin keeps track of transactions through blockchain technology. The blockchain is a public record of all Bitcoin transactions, stored in “blocks” linked together, forming a chain. Each time someone sends Bitcoin, that transaction is verified and added to the blockchain, making it transparent and secure. Once something is recorded in the blockchain, it cannot be changed or deleted, which prevents fraud or manipulation. Jain, K. (2020).
