Make sure you've read over Assignment
& Exam Policies!
Important!
All virtual classes are writing in-person exams at the
Oakville/Trafalgar campus. See SLATE for date/time and room number.
If you're not familiar with the Oakville campus, arrive early
so you can find your assigned room.
Important!
All students with ALS Accommodations for exams must
inform/request accommodations one week prior to exam date.
This assumes you've had your meeting with me at the start of
term (virtual or in person) to discuss your ALS profile.
If you have not met with me or do not request your accommodations
one week prior to the exam, it is assumed you are not using
any of your accommodations.
If your accommodation requires use of the testing center on
campus, you must book your space one week prior to your exam.
Make sure I'm cc'd or sent a copy of the confirmation or it
is assumed you are writing in the regularly scheduled classroom
at the regularly scheduled time.
Important!
All exams are in-person and written ON PAPER: no
computers or devices are permitted or required.
You are permitted the use of a reference sheet during
this exam: this sheet must follow the
Exam Reference Sheet
Guidelines or you will not be permitted to use it.
- The exam takes place on the Trafalgar/Oakville campus
in either your regular face-to-face classroom or
a designated classroom (for virtual classes).
Check your SLATE calendar for clarification
and exact details.
- If you are in a virtual class, your exam takes place
at the Trafalgar/Oakville campus in-person.
See the SLATE calendar
for the specific room number. If you are unfamiliar with
the Trafalgar/Oakville campus, it is expected that you will
arrive early enough to find the exam classroom.
- You are required to bring your Sheridan oneCard to all
exams at Sheridan. If you do not bring your oneCard,
you will not be permitted to write the exam unless you
can provide official, valid ID (and your exam will not
be graded until you provide a Sheridan oneCard that
matches your ID).
- The exam is exactly 2 hours long. There will be no lesson after
the exam.
- The exam is written on paper. No laptops are allowed
to be open or on the desks during the exam.
- Bring your own writing materials.
- The exam is closed-book. Besides an approved reference
sheet, no textbooks, notes,
references, or any other material are allowed on
the desks during the exam unless specified by your professor.
A re-usable beverage container of an appropriate
beverage is permitted.
- No other paper, notes, books, or calculators are allowed on the
desk during the exam
unless it is provided by your professor or the invigilator.
- If your professor gives you scrap paper, it MUST be returned with your exam.
- Failure to submit any scrap paper will result in a grade of 0.
- The professor/invigilator has the right to inspect any materials at your desk to ensure
no cheating is taking place.
- All phones, smart watches, and other devices must be turned off during the exam (not just silenced
or on vibrate: they must be OFF).
You may not use/answer your phone, use a smart-watch, or use
or use any electronic device during the exam.
- You will be required to leave all bags, backpacks, purses, phones, tablets,
jackets/coats,
hats, headphones/headsets, food/beverages, etc. at the front of the
room. This list is not exclusive: your professor may have you leave other items at the front
of the room. You may retrieve these items once you have submitted your exam.
- Phones, smart watches, and all other devices must also be left
with your belongings at the front of the room. If you are found
with a phone, smart watch, or other device at your desk at any time
during the exam, you will receive an automatic grade of 0.
- If you are wearing long, baggy sleeves you will be required
to roll them up during the exam.
- Ear phones, ear pods, or other listening devices are not permitted
during the exam (this does not include accessible devices
e.g. hearing aid, chochlear implant).
If you are found
with any listening device at your desk at any time
during the exam, you will receive an automatic grade of 0.
Disposable foam ear plugs are permitted: you
must show them to the professor/invigilator BEFORE
insertion into the ear.
- You may not leave the room for any reason during the exam.
You may only leave the room
after you have submitted your assigned sheet.
- You are not permitted to discuss the exam with anyone else
while you are writing it. You are not permitted to ask
another person for help/advice/etc (except your professor/invigilator).
- You are not permitted to communicate with any other
person during this exam except your professor or an
invigilator/proctor.
This includes but is not limited to chat
communication, voice communication, and forum or
discussion board postings, using any device.
- You may not share/post or otherwise make public or give
to anyone else your exam questions or answers during or
after the exam. This would constitute
a breach of academic integrity on your permanent
record and will be dealt with accordingly.
- If you are late for the exam, you will only be allowed
to write the exam if
no one else has completed the test and left the room.
You will not be given extra time.
- There are no make-up exams.
Plan ahead!! Make sure you don't sleep in, as that is not
a valid reason for missing a test. Make sure you leave for
school earlier than normal in case you encounter transportation
problems on the way (i.e traffic jam, broken-down bus, etc).
If you drive, make sure you have a bus schedule - if your car
won't work when you leave for school, you'll have the time and
resources to take the bus, instead.
Exam Procedure
The exam begins on the hour and takes place as two
parts, as follows:
- When you arrive, after you have placed your belongings
at the front of the room, submit your reference sheet
to the professor (not the invigilator) IN PERSON.
- Do not give it to another student to give the prof.
- Do not leave it on a desk/table at the front or at
your desk.
- Hand it to the professor, only.
- If you forget your sheet in your bag, locker, or elsewhere
you will not be permitted to retrieve it once the exam
has begun.
- After submitting your reference sheet to the professor, find the desk
that has a sheet of paper with your name and
student number. This is your assigned seat and must
remain as your assigned seat for the duration of the
exam.
- You may not change seats.
- When the exam is completed, you will be returning
this seating assignment sheet to the professor.
You may not take it with you: failure to return it will result
in a grade of 0 on part 1 of the exam.
- Part One of the exam should take 30 minutes.
- Stay in your seat after you have completed part 1.
Raise your hand and the professor will take
your test paper.
- If you need the washroom, let your professor know.
- If you are not leaving to use the washroom, you can
begin part 2 of the exam.
- Any time left in the 2 hours is used for part 2 of
the exam: do not take a long washroom break, as this will
cut into the time you have for part 2. Do not take too
long to complete part 1, as this will also cut into
the time you have to complete part 2. The exam ends
after 2 hours from the scheduled start time, regardless of how
you managed your time.
- When you are given part 2, you will also be given your
reference sheet, if you have provided one at the
start of the exam AND if it meets the
Reference Sheet
Guidelines.
- After you have submitted Part Two, you must
return your test paper AND your reference sheet
to the professor.
- After submitting your test and your reference sheet,
you can quietly collect your belongings and leave the room.
- If you do not return your reference sheet or exam paper, you will
automatically receive a 0 on part 2 the exam.
