Course Overview and Information

Everything you need to know about this course can be found in the Class Plan. Be sure to look over the Professor Contact information, Course Description, Evaluation, Course Policies, and Classroom Policies. It is assumed and expected that by week 2 you will have read all of the information outlined in the Class Plan, including the Assignment/Exam Policies, Academic Integrity Information, and Coding Standards for this Course.

This is a programming course. It is expected that you will follow the 1:4 standard which applies to all courses at Sheridan: For each hour in the classroom you are expected to spend at least 4 hours outside of the classroom doing class work, such as reading relevant texts/articles/tutorials, practicing class work, doing assignments, going over your class notes, and studying the material. Your success in all of your courses depends upon your willingness to make an effort in your work, to problem solve rather than looking for instant answers, and to take accountability for your learning.

It is expected that you are familiar with the material from the term 1 courses Web Development (SYST10049) and Object Oriented Programming 1 with Java (PROG10082). If you received a B or higher in both of these courses then you should have no problem with the work in this course.

However, if you received grade lower than a B in either one or both of SYST10049 and PROG10082 then you will have to do a bit more reading and practice with the material in this course. You will need to brush up on the material in both courses as you also study for and do the work in this course.

If you need assistance during this course, you can:

Note for Winter 2023

I am only teaching the first 7 weeks of this course ("7a"). An instructor is teaching the second 7 weeks of this course ("7b"). This is a common occurrence, as all full time professors are required to take 7 weeks of non-teaching time during the academic year. I will not be available after Feb 25 to answer questions or provide assistance: you must ask the 7b instructor for help after Feb 25.
