Addiction
What is an addiction?
it’s a condition that affects a lots of aspects of life, including physical and mental. There are 2 principal forms of addiction:
- Substance use disorders
- Behavioral addictions.
It
is no secret that nicotine is very addictive, which makes quitting
smoking very difficult for people. When the chemicals in nicotine reach
the brain, it creates a temporary feeling of pleasure and relief.
However, when the effects begin to wear off, the body craves more
nicotine, which makes it an addiction.
Addiction begins with mild preferences or habits. For example, someone enjoys a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, but slowly develops a dependency that affects their life. In the case of smoking, dependence can reach a point where it dominates personal priorities, including one's own health. There are also withdrawal symptoms, such as:
- Irritability
- Restlessness
- Anxiety.
These are reasons that smokers are discouraged from quitting.
The
need for the substance is so strong in the mind that satisfying that
desire takes priority over all sorts of things. If the person is highly
addicted, he or she may:
- Give up food
- Work responsibilities
- Lose respect for the law
- risk family security
