There was a study done recently that studied TikTok content related to recovery from eating disorders varies depending on the hash tags used, and there was a review completed that discovered TikTok often displays mental health and ED content, with no medical backing, resulting in the spread of incorrect information. There are communities on social media platforms that suffer with Anorexia Nervosa and other eating disorders that offer support, and promote recovery from eating disorders, these accounts and communities have been growing increasingly popular across social media platforms. There are issues concerning later stages of recovery regarding comparison of oneself to another person who also has Anorexia Nervosa or another eating disorder. This speaks to how social media can be beneficial and a hindrance in recovery for individuals suffering with Anorexia Nervosa. Social media is not to be blamed for Anorexia Nervosa, as no link has been found. However, it does play a significant role in the way people, not just people suffering from Anorexia Nervosa see themselves, but the general population.
