Greenhouse Effect

The Science Behind Global Warming

Environmental Impact Description of the Effect
Global Warming A global warming occurs when the greenhouse effect becomes intensified due to the accumulation of greenhouse gases. This means the temperature of the Earth gradually increases. Although life requires a natural greenhouse effect, too much heat trapped in the atmosphere is harmful to both people and the environment.
Melting Glaciers and Sea Level Rise The melting of glaciers and polar ice caps is the major concern. Arctic and Antarctic ice melting results in a rise in temperature, raising sea levels which leads to floods in coastal areas. This increase in water puts millions of people and their houses at risk.
Extreme Weather Extreme weather conditions are another effect of global warming. It causes heat waves, strong storms, droughts, and floods which creates a higher risk of destruction for homes. Alongside destruction of homes, it also disrupts farming, clean accessible water, and food which are essential for survival.
Impact on Wildlife and Ecosystems Wildlife and ecosystems are affected by the greenhouse as well. Animals and plants that cannot endure the change in temperatures may become extinct. Warmer waters in the ocean damage coral reefs, which is an example of dying foliage.
Health Risks People's health is in danger as well. Children and senior citizens are especially prone to breathing difficulties owing to air pollution caused by greenhouse gasses. Furthermore, the warmer temperatures increase the range of many diseases transmitted by insects, including malaria and dengue fever.
Pollution from Industry and Construction Ultimately, the environment suffers when gas emissions occur due to industrial and construction activities. For instance, the production of aluminum greenhouses consumes a lot of energy and creates much more pollution than when materials are recycled (Romnée et al., 2019). If better building methods were developed, it might be possible to reduce these harmful impacts.
