Celiac Disease

Diagnosis and Management

Complications

Autoimmune disorders are found to be 3-10 times more common among individuals with celiac disease and 5 times more frequent among the relatives of those with celiac disease, when contrasted to the general population(U, L, N, & al., 1997). Also, celiac disease is more frequently observed in individuals with autoimmune disorders.

Celiac patients, especially those in advanced age, face an elevated risk of developing malignancies. “The relative risk for the development of intestinal lymphoma in celiac patients is reported to be 5 to 300 in different studies.”(CJ & HR, 2006)
