Types of Mental Wellness Apps

Apps for mental wellness are electronic applications created to promote mental health by providing tools and techniques for managing a variety of physical disorders. Based on how they work, the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) divides these applications into six groups:

  • Self-Management: These applications provide users with the ability to track their moods and create customized coping mechanisms, among other tools, to keep an eye on and manage their mental health.

  • Enhancement of Cognitive Functions: These applications include workouts and activities designed to improve memory, attention, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Skills-Training: To assist users in managing stress and anxiety, these applications teach certain skills like mindfulness exercises, relaxation methods, or cognitive-behavioral approaches.

  • Social Support: These applications enable peer connections and foster a feeling of community by matching users with encouraging groups.

  • Symptom tracking: By keeping track of symptoms associated with mental health disorders, these applications assist users in spotting trends and triggers.

  • Passive Data Collection: To track user activity and offer insights on patterns in mental health, these apps gather data from users' devices.

It is crucial to remember that, despite their potential benefits, these applications cannot replace expert mental health treatement. For thorough treatement programs, users should speak with healthcare professionals.
