Acid Rain

Acid Rain

Prevention And Control

Assessment of precipitation in Guilin over the years 2013 to 2017 reveals the strong links between pollution management and acid rain changes. Acid gases like SO₂ and NOₓ were greatly reduced in the air, but acid rain levels did not follow suit. In reality, the acidity of precipitation went up after 2015, mainly because the amount of neutralizing chemicals like calcium (Ca²⁺) and ammonium (NH₄⁺) in the air was reduced at the same time. According to the findings, while dealing with acid gas emissions is necessary, concentrating only on cleaning up pollutants can actually make acid rain worse if more acidic rain is falling.

A method for preventing and controlling acid rain should include controlling acid pollutants along with adding alkaline substances at the same time and in a planned way. The study advises that all main pollutants—namely, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, ammonia and atmospheric coarse particles—should be controlled at the same time, not on their own. It would support maintaining equilibrium between acidic and basic compounds in the atmosphere.

The analysis shows that}[DO RESEARCH] For this reason, both the fossil fuel industry and agriculture need to be controlled more strictly and changed, to lower ammonia in the atmosphere. Long-distance air currents also have a big effect on the chemical makeup of local rainwater. So, it is also important for neighboring regions to join forces in dealing with air pollution, with special consideration for upwind places.
