Depression Types

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD):

  • The most common form of depression.
  • Symptoms persist for at least two weeks and interfere with daily functioning.
  • May occur once in a lifetime or recur throughout life.

Bipolar Disorder (BD):

  • Characterized by alternating episodes of depression and mania.
  • During manic episodes, individuals experience elevated mood, increased energy, and impulsivity.
  • Bipolar disorder is often misdiagnosed as major depression, leading to inappropriate treatment.

Postpartum Depression:

  • Experienced by some women after childbirth.
  • Symptoms include mood swings, anxiety, irritability, and difficulty bonding with the baby.
  • Postpartum depression can have serious consequences if left untreated, affecting both mother and baby's well-being.
