Treatment
Those that suffer from sickle cell disease can only ease their pain by
drinking lots of fluids, taking pain medication which would ease them
into sleep and provide them with the rest needed, and rehabilitation in
using limbs again after a crisis ex: learning to walk and balance to get
strong again. Extreme cases would require extensive time of stay in a
hospital where the previously listed steps are put into effect at a
strong dose on medication and may require a bone marrow transplant.
“Bone marrow transplant has become an available treatment for this
disease and is
it's only known cure. "(DeAngelis, 2023). Blood transfusions are
one of the main and only forms of treatment
for
sickle cell.
(Sickle Cell Disease Canada, n.d.).
They help increase the number of normal red
blood cells, which improves oxygen delivery and reduces the risk of
complications such as strokes.
