Symptoms of ADHD

Symptoms of ADHD vary between individuals and may change with age.
The disorder is commonly divided into three categories:
- Inattention
- Hyperactivity
- Impulsivity
Some individuals experience all three symptoms, while others struggle with inattention.

| Symptom | Child | Adult |
| Inattention | Difficulty focusing on tasks, being easily distracted, making careless mistakes, and having trouble following instructions. | Struggles with organization, time management, and completing tasks. Forgetfulness and frequently losing personal items. |
| Hyperactivity | Constant movement, difficulty sitting still, excessive talking, and restlessness. | Inner restlessness and constant feeling of being unable to relax. |
| Impulsivity | Interrupting others, difficulty waiting for turns quick decisions, and engaging in risky behaviors. | Hasty decisions, impatience, challenges in relationships, work, and daily life. |
Symptoms over time
Symptoms of ADHD change over time. Hyperactivity may decrease with age, but difficulties with attention, organization, and emotional regulation often continue into adulthood. Many adults with ADHD were not diagnosed as children, which can result in long-term struggles with self-esteem, anxiety, and depression.
