Introduction

Did you know that in the year 2020, there were approximately 2.3 million internet crimes victims globally and losses of more than $4.2 billion was recorded (Internet Crime Complaint Center, 2020)? The term "Cybercrimes" or "Internet Crime" refers to unlawful activities that occur with the aid of computers, networks, and internet. They can vary from phishing, hacking, identity theft, cyber fraud, cyberstalking, cyber bullying, to cyberterrorism, and cyber war. Internet crimes are a persistent and challenging problem, as they affect the individuals, businesses, and governments in different ways (Furnell, 2003). They lead to economic loss, emotional distress, damage of reputation, privacy breach, security threats and even to physical injury. This report will focus on the issue of how internet crime causes tremendous harm to individuals, businesses, and governments, and the need for the implementation of effective prevention, detection, and response measures.
