Diagnosis
Radiation Therapy
Radiation treatment uses high-energy radiation to eliminate any leftover
cancer cells after surgery. It is often suggested after a lumpectomy to
lower the risk of local recurrence. There are several types of radiation
treatment:
❖
External Beam Radiation:
The most prevalent kind, in
which the targeted breast region receives radiation from an external
source
(Boere et al., 2022).
❖
Internal Radiation (Brachytherapy):
This would involve placing radioactivity inside of
the breast close to a tumour.
Chemotherapy
The treatment method of
chemotherapy destroys rapidly growing cancer cells using harmful drugs.
It could be employed for:
❖
The purpose of neoadjuvant chemotherapy before the
surgery involves tumour reduction for potential surgical benefits.
❖
Adjuvant chemotherapy follows the surgical removal
of cancer cells with the purpose of diminishing recurrence risks (Kerr
et al., 2022).
Typical examples of chemotherapy are doxorubicin, paclitaxel,
cyclophosphamide, or carboplatin. Side effects can range anywhere from
nausea to hair loss or fatigue to suppressive immune diseases.
