Causes of Climate Change

Greenhouse gases play an important role for the presence of life on earth. Certain atmospheric gases keep the earth warm by trapping heat and preventing our planet from getting too cold. But many natural and human activities elevate global temperature (Stern and kaufmann2014). Because of this the earth is getting warmer day by day.

There are different causes of climate change:

  1. Natural Causes
  2. Anthropogenis or Human-driven

Natural Causes Of Climate Change

Greenhouse gases play an important role for the presence of life on earth. Certain atmospheric gases keep the earth warm by trapping heat and preventing our planet from getting too cold. But many natural and human activities elevate global temperature (Stern and kaufmann2014). Because of this the earth is getting warmer day by day.

Volcanic Eruptions

When volcano erupts it emits Carbon dioxide, Sulfur dioxide, ash, dust etc. which scatter the rays of sun coming to earth and cause the cooling effect. This cooling down of the earth's temperature can last for one to two years. In 1816, Indonesia’s Mount Tambour eruption caused snowfall in the month of June in northeastern United States and Canada. It resulted in damage of crops, food shortage and higher death rates.

Volcano

Solar Variabilities

The sunspots changes every eleven years. The change in sunspots causes the global climate to be warmer or cooler. Although the change in solar variability is week (Stern and Kaufman 2014).About 300 years ago the reduced number of sunspots resulted in cooler climate. This was known as the Little Ice Age (Crowley and Thomas 2000).

Solar Variations

Tectonic Movements

The movement of tectonic plates affects global distribution pattern air and ocean water as a result the climate of the continent changes.

Anthropogrnic or Human-Driven causes 0f Climate Change

Human activities are the main reason of drastic climate change and even scientists agree to this. Anthropogenic changes, basically the increase in emissions of greenhouse gases results in climate change (Crowley andThomas2000). Human driven factors for GHG, Sulphur emissions and black carbon starts to increase rapidly after 1970 (Stern and Kaufmann 2014).

Transportation

The vehicles like cars, trucks, ships and planes that we use to transport goods and services and travelling are emits greenhouse gases .Burning petroleum based fuels releases massive amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. These greenhouse gases results in Climate change.

combustion

Electricity Generation

Electricity is produced by burning coal, fossil fuels and natural gases. All these activities results in emission of greenhouse gases like Carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. All these gases increase temperature of our planet.

Industries and manufacturing

The factories and industries release significant amount of greenhouse gases. Production of carbon intensive products including metal and basic chemicals emits greenhouse gases that affect our atmosphere and climate.

Industrial pollution

Agriculture

There is very import but subtle relationship between soil and climate which has been changed by the introduction of modern agriculture methods. The agriculture sector contributes to large amount of methane and nitrous oxide in the environment. These gases trap the heat. The use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides is also one of the reasons that the agriculture is responsible for three quarters of nitrous oxide present in our atmosphere.

Pesticides

Deforestation

We are cutting trees and forest to build industries, building and factories. This way we are injecting more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Plants and soil store carbon. When we cut tress and forestall the stored carbon is released into the air.
