Effects of Climate Change
The greatest existential threat for our planet Earth right now is the climate change. Climate change is affecting our environment in many different ways. If we don't control the emission of greenhouse gases then the rising global temperatures can collapse crops and fishery. It can result in the disappearance of thousands of species.
Climate change is already causing death and suffering. It is causing wildfires, storms, floods etc.
Below is the list of effects of climate change
- Effect on Weather
- Higher Average Temperature
- Long Lasting Droughts
- Intense Wildfire
- Melting Ice Glaciers
- Human Health
Effect on Weather
Rise in global temperature are making droughts, floods, storms and wildfires more fierce and unforeseeable. All these events have become more common.
Higher Average Temperature
The average global temperature is increasing each year, in summer we are experiencing sweltering heat waves as compare to the previous year.
In 21st central the global temperature exceeds the predicted limit (Crowley and Thomas 2000).
Long Lasting Droughts
As the temperature is increasing the rate at which water evaporates from the air is also increasing.
The result is more severe and long lasting droughts.
Intense Wildfire
With the elevation in temperature the climate is getting hotter and drier day by day resulting in wildfire that spreads more fiercely and lasting for a longer period of time. This wildfire results in loss of so many lives and homes.
The recent example is Southern California wildfires which injured and killed many animals, destroyed so many homes and forced many people to evacuate.
Melting Ice Glaciers
The climate change is causing the glaciers and polar ice sheets to melt. These are the reasons where massive amount of water is stored. As glaciers melt ,it exposes darker ocean waters.
These waters absorb more sunlight and the speed at which the ice melts increases.
Human Health
Wildfire smoke and ozone smog triggered by increased temperature cause air pollution and worse the air quality which is very harmful for our health. Climate change can increase the risk of Lyme disease in Manitoba and can spread to other areas(Cameron et al., 2021).
Thousands of people dies every year because of extreme weather events like flood, drought, storm etc. It also causes economic damage.
