Cause
Fossil fuel burning is the biggest cause of SO₂ and NOₓ which together
are responsible for roughly 50% of all cases of acid rain (Chiu et al.,
2011). They react with water vapor and different chemicals in the air,
eventually making sulfuric and nitric acids that come down to earth as
acid rain. Volcanoes may alter CO2, but what people do is far more of a
cause (as explained by Grennfelt et al., 2020). It is mentioned by Chiu
et al. (2011) that chimney waste includes pollutants that make the air
acidic and the same group says algae technology can stop such emissions
from reaching the air.
