agricultural performance increased population growth which drove settlements to
develop into bigger organized communities
(Harding, 2014).
Many Iron Age societies adopted urbanization as their central characteristic
while their cities evolved into fortified political and economic centers.
Empires and kingdoms including Rome and the Chinese Zhou Dynasty combined iron
weaponry for territorial growth and enforcement of their political power through
iron weaponry
(Britannica, 2025).
The social classes among people expanded in complexity when iron trade and
production created both smithery professions and merchant positions (Evans, 2013)
