The main feature of the Iron Age
consisted of complete metallurgical control of iron. The production process of
iron differed from bronze because it did not need copper and tin, but it was
available to more people
(Waldbaum, 1999).
The Hittites together with Celts and Greeks learned iron smelting methods
allowing them to transform raw iron into robust and lasting tools
(Firm, 2009).
The use of iron tools including plows together with sickles led to raised
agricultural output through improved efficiency
(Anthony, 2007).
The military superiority of iron swords together with spears and armor gave
armed forces a battle-related strategic advantage that helps protect their
position in combat. Strategies for ironworking gradually expanded through
various territories to shape the future of infrastructure development and
construction techniques and artisanal practices.
