Overcoming body Issues is not an easy feat but lets look at four steps to improve body image without making any physical changes to our appearance.
1. Reduce Body Checking
- Repeatedly analysing and scrutinizing your body in its size, shape, etc.
- This can include constantly weighing yourself, looking in the mirror all the time, and comparing yourself to others.

2. Practice Body Appreciation
- Learning and appreciating your body and its value to you for what it does.
- “Focusing on what your body enables you to experience can interrupt the constant mental critique of how it appears.” (C. Karoll, para, 12, 2025).
3. Be Selective to What or Who You Pay Attention to
- Focus on reducing your exposure to appearance-focused media, such as social media.
- Instead focus on including friends and people who bring you up and support you and your values.
