Catastrophic injuries can be brought about by several factors, which include:

Road Accidents: The leading source of catastrophic injury is a motor vehicle collision. Most of the car collisions result from speeding, driving under intoxication, and distracted driving.

Falls: Severe injury may be suffered at work or in your home. Slipping, stumbling, and falling usually bring about traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries.

Sports-Related Accidents: Involvement in sports is quite exciting, but it may bring disastrous consequences. High-speed and high-altitude activities, collision sports, and extreme sports all are extremely perilous (Tator, 2008).

Act of Violence: Shootings, assaults, and other violent crimes are the causes of severe injuries  (Davison & AUSTIN, 2008, p.67). Shootings, assaults, and other violent crimes can cause traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and other life-changing problems.

Medical Malpractice: Rare, but with potentially disastrous outcomes due to surgical error or misdiagnosis.

Some of the prevention techniques include:

  1. Implantation of safety precautions and their enforcement in the workplace and sports (Nagahiro & Mizobuchi, 2017-06).

  2.  Enforcement of safe driving and use of safety features in motor cars.

  3. Providing adequate safety precautions in the home , such as adequate lighting and removing potential tripping hazards.

  4. Wearing safety equipment while operating machinery and dangerious devices.
