There are many types of catastrophic injuries, and they might affect one's quality of life. Common ones include :

Types

Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI): when there is a violent jolt or blow to the head, it may cause traumatic brain injury that one suffers from temporary brain function damage and hence has developed certain disablements that include speech, memory, and motor function  (Giacino, et al., 2012). These might be mild concussions or severe brain injuries that require immediate medical attention and, often, long-term rehabilitation.

Spinal cord injuries(SCI): Spinal cord injuries usually result in a loss of limbs or sensation within the body part below the injury site. SCIs very often cause partial or complete paralysis, which hugely impacts personal independence.

Amputations: These are when a limb is removed entirely or partially due to serious trauma or medical necessity. Amputations can have a disastrous physical and psychological impact on an individual, which may make it hard for him to carry out his daily activities and enjoy things he used to enjoy.

Severe Burns: These can result in long-term physical and emotional scarring. They may damage skin, underlying tissues, and even organs, thus requiring countless surgeries, skin grafts, and reconstructive surgeries.

Multiple Fractures: In cases where severe fractures affect the major bones in one's body, it may result in permanent loss of functionality and a reduction of mobility and strength for long periods.
