 Three Main Areas of Difficulty

  1. Communication and language development
    • They may develop language slowly or not develop it at all
    • Individuals may struggle with starting or maintaining a conversation
    • Repeat words without understanding
    • Use gestures instead of words
  2. Social communication and interaction
    • Limited or unusual eye contact
    • Facial expressions
    • Body language
    • Difficulty in engaging in conversation
    • Reduced participation in activities and discussions related to interests and feelings
  3. Behaviours
    • Repetitive body movements
    • Unusual sensitivity to sounds, lights, textures, smells, or pain
    • A strong preference for the same routine with difficulty changing it

Symptoms of Autism

The presence of some symptoms or signs in an individual does not necessarily mean that this person has autism. A diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder requires qualified specialists and behavioural therapists who apply established specific diagnostic criteria
