Effects of pesticides on Environment

  1. Plant Growth:
Pesticides can harm plant growth in various ways like improper germination, and development, affecting biochemical pathways and yield of the plants which disrupts the growth of certain antioxidant enzymes by causing metabolic disorders.
  2. Deforestation:
Pesticides kill both harmful and farmer-friendly pests that destroy various plant species and cause deforestation and soil erosion. Using land for monoculture is also leading to deforestation.
  3. Water Pollution:    Pesticide pollution of surface water and groundwater poses a severe and pressing global problem, affecting freshwater and coastal ecosystems worldwide. This contamination directly affects local drinking water quality. It has far-reaching indirect consequences, including the transfer of pollutants through the soil, the food chain, and across species, exacerbating the issue.  (Ferreira, et al., 2020)
