The popularity of plastic surgery is continuing to grow globally due to high demand, with people resorting to both reconstructive and cosmetic surgeries for many reasons. While many are experiencing positive outcomes from improved self-esteem and personal image restoration it is important to keep in mind the ethical and psychological challenges that surface with such medical procedures.

Social media influence and unrealistic beauty standards can push individuals to undergo unnecessary procedures and at times cause danger to their mental and physical health. Therefore, informed decision making when it comes to these kinds of procedures is encouraged, and most of the time a necessary requirement to undergo such surgeries.

Like all medical surgeries, plastic surgery carries a risk to it. Complications from infections, scarring, and nerve damage are a possibility especially when it is an elective procedure. Plastic surgeons have an ethical responsibility to clearly disclose to their patients any complications related to the surgery.

There must be a balanced approach that weighs benefits with risks and life quality improvement to the patient. Ultimately it shouldn’t be viewed as a quick fix to a problem that can have several solutions other than just going under the knife. Plastic surgeries can transform lives, and it must be governed by prioritizing patients’ safety and informed decision-making.

In conclusion, while plastic surgery can have benefits on correcting birth-defects, improving self-image and self-esteem, it must be approached with caution and based on medically informed decision-making rather than social trends and unrealistic beauty standards.
